Where is this popular - never had a parent hit me with a shoe nor heard from my friends getting beat with slippers but seen that on a ton of Bollywood movies which makes me think it's a thing
I got hit by Slipper, Belt and kitchen ladles etc. Some of my teachers were in a different league all together. One of them had a trademark slap that we would call the Namaste shot. Pull someone close using their tie and slaps on both cheeks at the same time

That’s really sad because in absence of being able to defend myself I probably would have started hurting myself to take the control back from whoever wanted to beat me. I’d have grown up distrustful of everyone.

Did stuff like this actually happen to people growing up??
Maybe it’s a country thing (I grew up in Canada) but I just can’t imagine this. Thought it was only in stories.

BCG1 how old are you? Surprised this stuff happens in Canada, but maybe I’m just in a bubble. Don’t beat your kids please!

...I think my dad threw a towel at me once when I was five because I kept throwing clothes in the washing machine for fun or climbing inside the top-load machine to play inside it, and now I’m in therapy because the sadma 😂
I am an Indian woman. Giving this disclaimer so that I can don’t get bashed. Yes this is normal but do all parents do this? no. Do many kids had them? yes. Did they deserve? maybe yes. Does that justify the punishment? - No.
But did we/I get slapped on face becoz of some unwarranted overly aggressive or naughty behavior? Yes. That one slap actually used to be more effective than the current “time out” concept. While I don’t support this ruthless beating but once in a while to knock some senses the slaps were needed and we turned out fine. It made us realise atleast when not to cross boundaries and when not to say “fuck you” to parents. 🤷🏻♀️

Yike! You need to realize that everyone definitely did not turn out fine from that, and that many married men have rage issues they take out on their wives. The reality is we have no idea how people turned out. Saying FU to a parent is the least of anyone’s problems.
It’s the rape capital of the world because of all these people who grew up needing to take their power back by forcing it on others. These dynamics are interrelated.
