To be honest I think it’d need to protect some of the exploitation that happens to mainly juniors. Some of the salaries are waaay to low for the amount of overtime and responsibility placed on ‘the kids’
In NYC our junior staff get overtime if they make under $58k, I believe.
Rising Star
-Paid overtime and weekend work to start. -Participation bonus, which I actually have on my shop and is amazing.
-Better parental leave.
- Legal support to deal with abusive behavior (moral and sexual harassment, racism etc)
Profit sharing seems like such a no brainer for an industry like ours. We're expected to act like entrepreneurs, yet paid on salary, with no overtime or bonuses.
Why can't we have some meats?
Deadline rules that stop long hours. As in, a client can’t demand something is due tomorrow, because that would ensure people work the night. The way truck drivers, pilots, and anyone who works in a factory have mandated rests.
But they need it by 9am! How will they forget to look at it until the afternoon if they don’t have it by 9am?!?!
Paid overtime or a 45 hour/week limit. Mandatory lunch breaks. Minimum wage for interns. Half-decent health insurance. Better parental leave. An actual HR department and lawyers to support those affected by harassment, racism, sexism, etc. Mandated rests.
We need a better compensation system.
Salaries need to follow inflation (at the very least)
If we’re going to be dictated by shareholders, we need profit sharing, stocks options, bonus and/or interest that substantially increase compensation.
Especially if we’re going to compete for talent with the platforms and clients.
Don’t think they’ll ever pay for overtime (do platforms pay for it?) since we’re not a blue collar category, even though it feels like. People making under a certain amount definitely should.
A code of conduct between agency and client that makes the relationship less abusive. The fees being cut left and right and the increase in demand has turned this industry into what it is today.
Decks have hundreds of pages because no one can buy an ideas unless they see the “full potential”. In the end you make a :15 social video but not until revising it 30 times…
Most importantly, we need a whistleblower in order for any of these things to change!
I think there is a really great case for overtime pay. Most of the time, they’re still billing the client for it, yet you don’t see a dime. So they’re incentivized to over work you.
In a past career, I worked as a paralegal. Very different job but the same ol’billing. I got paid for every single hour I worked. It’s absolutely possible and it actually incentivized better behavior from both the employer and client.
Like a super cool Union logo I could wear on my clothes.
an ***actual*** HR department, especially in smaller agencies. I feel like I can’t say anything without it being agency gossip so I haven’t, and the micro aggressions are not so micro anymore 😅
1. No weekend work
2. An actual 40 hr work week
3. Pensions
4. Company ownership
5. Livable (not minimum) wages for interns, jrs and the service people who maintain agency buildings
6. Protection for freelancers for contracts cut short
7. At least 2 weeks notice before being laid off with generous separation packages
8. Addiction resources
9. Pay transparency
10. Unlimited PTO
11. Union representatives on staff at all times
12. How much more time do you have? Lol
We just got this unlimited pto. Why is it terrible?

Sr. CW 3 - my dad was in IBEW all his life, thanks for your contributions and work comrade.
No healthcare premiums.
A work/life balance.
Paid overtime.
Accrued vacation days.
Someone to handle our desks when we take off work for vacation.
Mandatory lunch breaks.
Mental health benefits.
Semi-annual raises.
Union representation at shoots.
The list goes on!
I’d like some residuals.
No more work. Just the pay.
Overtime pay for all working over 45 hours a week. Better starting pay for juniors. Better insurance. Something to influence the lack of diversity in leadership.
This has got to be the third time I’ve seen overtime for over 45. Fuck that. 40 is a normal work week. Don’t sell yourselves short.
Pro
Standards for client code of conduct with inflated kill fees - where those extra dollars go back into the hands of the team as some compensation for being abused.
The absolute insanity and cruelty that some clients get away with needs to stop.
Clients need to pay the agencies fairly. Otherwise agencies cannot implement these changes without going under.
Or we could not pay our holding company board members ridiculous salaries and bonuses.
Profit sharing profit sharing profit sharing.
Get % of the new business you helped win by forgetting you have friends, family, and a social life for months.
I would work weekends knowing I’ll get $$$ if we win. We all know how much ad agencies make. If they have a budget of $200000 for banners no one will see, you def can give an extra $10000k+ to all employees who get you those clients
I’m tired of being treated like an intern with all the hours and weekends I work. On top of that, my teammate and I pull all-nighters to throw our ideas in the mix. We hear from seniors and other teams that they love what we’re bringing to the table, but our stuff isn’t seen by client bc “it wouldn’t be fair.” So compensation and consideration would be nice.
Some type of compensation for the amount of bouncing around/moving a lot of us do. It’s typically an incredibly short timeframe at each agency, rent adds up, idk if/when/where I’d be able to plant my roots and buy a house ever.
-40 hour work week
-Overtime for weekends, overnight work or over the 40 hour mark
-Caps on how long we can work in a day
-Decent health, vision and dental insurance
-Cost of living raises
-Pay transparency
-Protections for freelancers/interns
-Parental leave
-3-4 weeks of mandatory vacation
