Earlier this week our exec team (tech co in Silicon Valley) said that they think we won’t fully return to the office until there’s a vaccine, which is about a year and a half from now. Anyone else?

Even if states say everything can be reopened, it doesn’t mean things will just go back to normal. Many companies will not want to just allow everyone to return and possible spread covid. Consumers won’t just go to the movies and sit next to people.

Have a friend who works for an investment banking firm tell them to prepare to not return until post labor day

i am all for how ahead of the curve tech firms have been on covid. of course it's made easier that a lot of tech firms are likely more able to work from home.

I def DO NOT want a vaccine. Y’all test that rushed vaccine out. Let me know how it goes ✌🏾.

I haven’t heard anything like that yet but our offices are closed indefinitely (PwC Canada).

I’m not surprised though that the office may be slower to reopen. There’s liability for the firm and given the expense and bumps already overcome to set almost everyone up to work remotely, they might as well keep it going until the liability becomes a manageable amount. Cost v benefit.

This doesn’t mean we can’t go out and socialize and eat at restaurants and visit our friends. Just our employers being cautious.

Yep

Also, a year and half for vaccine is optimistic best case scenario

Hold on to your job if you still have it

The fastest a vaccine was created was four years. Maybe it will be quicker this time around.

Didn’t Facebook already announce they won’t reopen offices until next summer?

^ (also i’m not with fb but same vibe)

I honestly don’t know if most people will be able to survive that long without the interaction we are used to

Fun fact, there is at least a reasonable possibility that there never will be a vaccine. So get comfortable.

Well look at that, you are an expert haha. Thanks for the info!

NJ starts antibody testing this week
Since both me and spouse had mild to mid level cases we are getting tested for antibodies to see what level of protection we may have. If we have protection then your outlook may differ.

Fishes,
I was selected for product based organisation but a third-party consultancy scheduled interviews and followed with them till offer release.
They(consultancy) are calling me sometimes and checking with me whether everything is good to join( i think they might get some money if I join)
But i see it was downgrade in technology in that organisation so I might not join in product company.
How do I convey them I have 20 days remaining?
Feeling guilty

Should I be concerned for my career with lack of billable projects? Background: Analyst hired out of undergrad in July 2020. I have worked on 3 proposals in the last 2 weeks, and 5 in the last 2 months. In the past year since I was hired, I have 8 months of billable work which is actually slightly higher than the other Analysts I joined with. Should I keep collecting paychecks and hoping for projects, or is this a serious issue that should prompt an exit strategy?

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.

I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about.

However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?

Is there an easy/efficient way to figure out how much you've contributed to vs earned in your Roth accounts? I started contributing >20 years ago to my employer's Roth 401k and have rolled it over to a Roth IRA and moved it between multiple custodians, e.g. Fidelity, Vanguard, UBS, Personal Capital, etc. It is unclear to me how much I contributed vs how much I earned by investing it.

The purpose of doing this is I want to use $10K of it, but want to prove that the $10K is from my contribution.

Hi Everyone,

Need some inputs before making an important decision.
I have offer from Cognizant and they are promising that next quarter they will initiate my Canada visa. They are giving assurance when I spoke to them over call. Also, my current employer Accenture is also saying the same to retain me. Can I believe Cognizant? Also, Canada onsite is best in which company - Accenture or Cognizant. Please suggest based on your experience.

Thanks in advance!

Hot take, for those who received a stimulus based on FY19 or FY18 returns why doesn’t the government make people pay it back in the FY20 return if they don’t qualify based on the actual tax year stimulus was for? I understand why they couldn’t wait but IrS knows who received it so it isn’t hard to implement. Could have used the anticipated saving coming back to fund more stimulus for those who truly needed it.

I started working for EY through a contractor and im hoping to move to EY to a different line that I could expand my current skillset. Although I don't hold a degree, I recently completed a certificate with Google in Project Management. I was hoping to move to something in Communications, EA or even Advisory but I haven't had any luck. and advice? Also looking into the EY Employee Referral scheme? or would that even be worth it?
